CLAIBOURNE DONATION
On
July 31, 2005, David Claibourne LTD will host an estate sale at
20 Blanchard Drive in Cabot. David Underwood, owner of David
Claibourne, has promised a portion of the proceeds from the
estate sale to benefit Open Arms Shelter, a safe, temporary home
for neglected and abused children.
The
home on Blanchard Drive is sponsored by David Claibourne during
Cabot’s first annual Avenue of Dreams home showcase. David
Claibourne provides most of the furniture in the home, which was
decorated by freelance interior designer Katie Pierson, of KDS
Interiors. Pierson also works for David Claibourne as a
decorator.
"Since
I was doing the house design-wise, I asked David if he’d like
to come on board and do the furniture," said Pierson.
"In order to showcase what David Claibourne can offer to
the area of Cabot," she added.
"He
[Underwood] selected to donate 10 percent of all the proceeds
from the estate sale to the Open Arms Shelter, for the
kids," Pierson said. "We wanted to help sponsor [Open
Arms Shelter]. Open Arms is a wonderful program for a lot of
kids," she said.
Pierson
anticipates the estate sale will earn between $30,000 and
$40,000, which potentially means a several-thousand dollar
donation to Open Arms Shelter. Pierson says she’ll have a box
set up in the house if someone wishes to donate extra.
Susan
Bransford, the executive director of Open Arms Shelter, said
some donation money would probably be used to replenish the
organization’s savings fund. "This time last year we had
budget cuts from the state," Bransford said. "We did
have to dip into our savings to make it through until the
funding was restored in February. So I’m sure part of it’s
going to go back," she said.
Open
Arms Shelter’s Board of Directors will make all final
decisions regarding the donation money.
Currently,
all David Claibourne advertisements include promotional
information for the Avenue of Dreams. The estate sale will run
from 1-5 p.m. Each room in the house will have a book of prices
for furniture in that room. If a person is interested making a
purchase they can leave their name and phone number with
Pierson. Items can be claimed for purchase before the actual
estate sale, but all furniture must remain in the house until
July 31.
David
Claibourne is showcasing several furniture collections in the
home; T.S. Berry and Drexel Heritage name just a couple. "T.S.
Berry has provided us with the furniture for the master bedroom
and for the game room," said Pierson. "Several vendors
will be having some of their accessories showcased in the
house," she said. "Linda Tedder of Phoenix Designs
[and Interiors] will have some pieces in there. There’ll be
other vendors; Virginia Pierson [of A Finishing Touch] will have
pieces showcased in there too," she added.
During
the Avenue of Dreams, Pierson expects to host mostly group
tours. One-on-one tours will be offered on "other
weekends," she said.
